Nature Education for Advanced Learning Programs PDF Print E-mail

RTPI's education staff work with teachers and administrators of Advanced Learning Programs or Gifted and Talented Programs in both the school-day and after-school settings, in order to provide outdoor, natural science and place-based curriculum and instruction.

Each ALP nature education program, tailor-made to your specific timeframe and physical setting, trains teachers to guide their students to conduct inquiry based investigations of real objects and places near the school. As a result, your students will be doing science as scientists do, practicing techniques and developing scientific habits of mind.

Outdoor, place based learning is a natural way to integrate all the disciplines, enabling teacher and students to practice and understand how science, language arts, fine arts and other disciplines connect. Tools and strategies we teach include nature journals, digital nature photography, and mapping to develop a sense of place, as well as specific, place based field study techniques for investigating ecosystems from schoolyards and vacant lots to streams and vernal pools.
