Cough it Up

Q: I saw a cat head in los angeles park. I never knew owls ate cats but apparently it is true. Why do they leave the head?

Habitat: forest/open woods

State: California

Habitat: forest/open woods

A: Yes, it is true that on occasion, an owl will eat a cat. With smaller prey like a mouse, owls simply swallow the animal whole. But with larger prey, an owl must tear off bits of meat to swallow. If you think about it, you'll quickly realize that an owl can't tear up a cat's head with its strong skull so must leave this portion of the cat behind.

Seeing a cat's head may have seemed a bit yucky but you got to see a part of nature that's quite interesting. Glad you asked your quesiton.
