A: I found a website that should provide you with the species living in British Columbia naturephoto.akuter.com but I can't provide any further info on the kind you have at this time. Salamanders are carnivores so will need to feed on lots of small "critters". Probably the easiest way to insure that your little guys will get enough food is to scoop up some water from small, vernal ponds and add to their water. These small bodies of water usually have all kinds of little organisms living in them and the babies will be able to find food that is small enough to eat. As the babies grow, they'll eat larger foods and once large enough can eat mosquito wigglers (these are easy to acquire). I think your plan to release the babies once they're all hatched is a good one though but watching the hatching process should be especially enjoyable and educational for you too. Thanks for sharing.
